Doctoral studies

Doctoral studies are the most important further education studies at the ETH. The Department of Environmental Systems Science offers the opportunity to work on a dissertation with the aim of achieving a Doctor of Sciences (Dr. sc. ETH Zurich).

For admission without having to take an entry exam, it is necessary to have an ETH degree, ETH Masters or an equivalent degree from another university. General doctoral studies and structured doctoral programmes

D-USYS does not offer its own doctoral programme. Doctoral students at D-USYS can nevertheless, choose between general doctoral studies (individual programme subject to the Detailed regulations D-USYS, Art. 1) or a structured doctoral programme. The latter requires the approval of their supervisor. In the structured doctoral programmes, students follow a curriculum in their chosen research topic and finish qualification framework that prepares them for national and international job markets.

Structured doctoral programmes are offered, for example, by the Plant Science Center and the Life Science Zurich graduate school.
