The Bachelor of Science course lasts three years. The first two years are devoted to basic studies in the general disciplines of chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and information technology, supplemented by fundamental economics and law. From this foundation, students are able to learn more in lectures, practical applications and excursions about the environmental systems - Atmosphere (air), Hydrosphere (water), Pedosphere (earth), and Anthroposphere, as well as land-use in agriculture and forestry.

The first year studies are common to all students working for a first degree, whether in Agriculture, Earth Sciences, Food Sciences or Environmental Sciences, and conclude with the Preliminary Examinations, after which the students are free to change their target degree. In the subsequent second and third years performance is rated by examinations and continuous assessment.

In the third year, students select a particular system as their special subject for system-oriented studies, choosing between

using case studies to extend their in depth knowledge of a central theme in environmental sciences.

The environmental studies are complemented by courses in social sciences and the humanities as well as technical subjects.
