Human health is determined by complex interactions between hereditary predispositions (genes), individual lifestyles (food, nutrition, behaviour), environmental impacts (e.g. climate, noxious substances, infectious diseases, radiation) and societal aspects (e.g. medicine, information, prevention, regulation). The major in Human Health, Nutrition and Environment focuses on noxious substances, infectious diseases and diet as examples for important factors affecting human health. More over it will also address the understanding of the influence of these factors on human health under changing conditions as urbanization, migration, climate change, pollution.

The programme is interdisciplinary and has a systemic approach, from the molecular through the cellular to the organismic and societal level and. This approach fosters integrative thinking and provides the basis to map out strategies on a societal level to improve human health. Therefore, it combines the biomedical knowledge with a holistic, system-oriented view on humans and society.

The programme is composed of four modules namely:

A broad education in sciences and mathematics is a good starting point for this major programme.
