The Bachelor's degree programme teaches the basics of natural sciences, social sciences and Agricultural Sciences. The aim of the three-year bachelor's degree is to acquire a broad knowledge in various Agricultural Science disciplines.

Specialist knowledge acquired in the course of studies is extended through excursions and the agricultural internship. The Bachelor's degree entitles the students to study for a Master's degree. Vocational qualification is achieved only after obtaining the Master's degree.

1st to 2nd semester

The Bachelor's degree courses in agricultural, food, earth and environmental sciences are mostly coordinated in the first year. For the most part, the basics of natural sciences and social sciences are taught here. During the course of studies, the specialisation increases according to the degree programme (see figure below).

3rd to 6th semester

In the second and third year, the subjects are increasingly focused on Agricultural Science topics. The subjects belong to one of the three fields: agricultural economics, plant sciences and animal sciences. While the courses of the second year are still assigned, students can choose from different courses within the majors in the third year. Excursions and an agricultural internship are part of the curriculum and provide a link to agricultural practice in Switzerland.

The Bachelor's programme in Agricultural Sciences comprises natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and agricultural sciences with a total of 180 credit points (CP, in German KP). The Bachelor's degree programme requires, among other things, the following:

  • Basics of Agricultural Sciences: 21 CP
  • Agricultural Economics subjects: 17 CP
  • Plant science subjects: 17 CP
  • Animal science subjects: 17 CP
