During your studies

During your studies, you will recieve detailed information before each academic year. Here you will find the most important events and topics. Contacts for professional or personal advice can be found under the appropriate links.

  • First day of the semester: To kick off the semester, the Food and Agricultural Sciences have a celebration which takes place at the beginning of the semester in September. Registered students receive an invitation.
  • Agro-Weekend: An introductory weekend of Agricultural Science takes place in the first week of the semester. The Agro-Weekend is mandatory to all new students of Agricultural Sciences.

Apart from to the Student Services, various contact points in the Department of Environmental Systems Sciences are available for professional and personal advice.

For questions and advice concerning student exchanges in Agricultural Sciences, please contact the student exchange advisor. This advisor supports both ETH students and exchange students at ETH Zurich.

Students from foreign universities (Incomings)

Students from universities outside of Switzerland who wish to complete an exchange course in agricultural sciences at ETH Zurich are also supported by the student exchange advisor:

  • General questions in connection with an exchange semester in Agricultural Sciences at ETH Zurich
  • Questions in connection with subjects offered at ETH Zurich in Agricultural Sciences

Application, Registration

The application or registration for the exchange semester is made via the Student Exchange Office.

ETH students (outgoings)

ETH students who complete an exchange programme at a host institution of higher education should contact the student exchange office with regard to:

  •     General questions and advice pertaining to exchange semesters at another university
  •     Study planning at the host university
  •     Recognition of credit points earned at the host university

Application, Registration

The application or registration for the exchange semester is made via the Student Exchange Office.

The military accepts requests for service deferral if the military service conflicts with the examination or examination preparation period. Information on end-of-semester and session examinations is available from the Academic Services and in the Academic Calendar for students.

Applications for postponement during the semester may be granted if examination-relevant material is missed, resulting in an extension of the studies.

The application must be sent to the assigned location at least 14 weeks before the start of the service. The service may not be postponed by more than one year. Renewed requests for postponement will be re-examined.

Procedure

If the application is rejected, the external pageVerbindungsstelle Armee und Hochschulen offers advice in the search for alternative solutions or when applying for reconsideration.

Students can apply for scholarships from the conton or residence or country of interest while also applyting for an ETH scholarship.  

Furthermore, ETH Zurich supports excellent master students with two scholarship programmes: The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) and the Master Scholarship Programme (MSP).

VIAL is the professional association of students of Agricultural and Food Sciences at ETH Zurich. It is a professional association of VSETH. VIAL offers prospective students trial days at ETH Zurich in the field of Agricultural Sciences. Furthermore, students organise events such as hiking and skiing weekends.
