Scientific methods

From the 4th semester onwards, students are introduced to the basics of scientific methodology. The students acquire the necessary competences for the Bachelor's and Master's thesis as well as for their future professional activities.

The scientific methodology includes the following courses:

  • Scientific work I and II
    This course deals with the principles of scientific work. Topics include: marking an argument, literature research, literature management and data handling, conventions of scientific writing in the natural sciences, as well as the analysis of scientific publications. The students apply what they have learned in writing a critical literature report to an agricultural science topic of their choice.

  • Internship in agricultural science laboratory and methods
    The students learn the most important techniques of molecular biology and the most important research methods of the research groups and apply them in practice. The methods used are critically evaluated within the framework of responsible research.

  • Scientific data evaluation and presentation
    Students bevome familiar with the steps from data entry to statistical analysis procedures and graphic display forms. In exercises with the data analysis software R, the methodical tool for data evaluation and presentation, students learn and discuss how to present data clearly and in a way that is scientifically correct.
